Elevator Modernization Update:

Thank you for being patient with us during our recent elevator modernization. Replacing these aging parts ensures that our library will be accessible for many more years. Thank you to all the staff and Friends of the Library who helped deliver books to our patrons through our curbside pick-up service. With the elevator now operating again, McCord will no longer offer curbside pick-up.

Fall Book Sale

The Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale will take place from October 13-18. The book sale will take place during McCord’s regular business hours. We only accept cash or check payments. Saturday is $1 bag day.

Spice Club is Back!

Sign up for the 2025 McCord Spice Club. Each month participants will receive a sample of that month’s featured spice, along with a printed packet full of recipes and information featuring the spice.

To receive the November spice, register no later than October 30.

Spices are ready the second week of each month. October spice will be ready for pick-up October 13.

WQLN STREAM Machine

October 8 @ 4:00

Ages 4-8 ONLY

Pre-Registration Required, WQLN can only work with this age group this time, younger siblings can not participate. They are welcome in the library proper but not at this program. Please plan accordingly. We will have other activities available for younger siblings.

Guidelines

  • Limited to 1 entry per person
  • Open to Grades Pre-K through 6th Grade
  • Must be 2-D artwork
  • Please include a black matt with artwork
  • For chalk/pastel entries, please apply a fixative to keep from smudging

Family STEM Program

October 4 @ 11:00

Paper Chain Challenge. Families have 30 minutes to make the longest chain from supplies provided.

Read and Create

Wednesdays at 4:00

Grades K-5

Join us after school from 4-4:30 each Wednesday for an interactive program for kids in grades K-5! We’ll enjoy a read-aloud followed by themed activities, games, or crafts based on the book. Connect with others as we share a love of reading, spark creativity, and add in some STEM skills, too!

The first meeting of each month features a “Book vs. Movie” showdown where we read a book, watch a short clip, and play a game to test your knowledge!

(No need to have seen the full movie.)

STEAM Club

Mondays at 4:00

Ages 6+

Join us every first Monday of the month for STEAM Club. We will have activities available such as Beebots, Marble Runs, Legos, and more! Parent must stay within earshot of child if child is under 12.

Harry Potter Trivia Night

Think you know your Hogwarts trivia?

Join us for Harry Potter Trivia Night on Tuesday, October 7 at 6:00 PM!

Teams must preregister and can consist of up to 6 players. Team members must be 16 years or older. Anyone 13–15 years of age may join if they have an adult on their team. Costumes are welcome to show off your house pride!

McCord Memorial Library Association Meeting

Members of the McCord Library Association are welcome to attend our annual summary of the library! All North East residents are welcome to join the Library Association.

What is Dial-A-Story?

Dial-a-Story is a library program that is available 24/7! Call 814-347-8318 to hear a story read to you. Stories are available in English and Spanish. English stories change weekly and the Spanish story changes monthly.

Call as many times as you want!

1000 Books Before Kindergarten

Ask for a bag and registration form at the main desk.

For each 100 books you read, receive a sticker and move your name along the tracker wall located downstairs by the elevator. Receive a free book when you reach 1,000 books!

After every 100 books parents or guardians can take a picture by the milestone posters.
