Elevate Our Library: A Library Fundraiser
WHEN: Friday, May 30 | 6:00-8:00
Tickets – $15 OR 2 for $25
Join us for an evening of delicious hors d’oeuvres, beverages, and a chance to explore all that McCord has to offer! Enjoy learning about library resources, interactive activities, and learn about the programs that make our library a vital community resource.
We’re raising funds to replace our outdated elevator system, which is costly to repair due to unavailable replacement parts. All proceeds will go towards the construction of updating our elevator, set to begin in September, ensuring accessibility for all.
Come for the fun, stay for the cause, and help us elevate our library for generations to come!

Remarkably Bright Creatures
by Shelby Van Pelt
was chosen as the best book in 2024! Published in 2022
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago.
Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.
Ever the detective, Marcellus deduces what happened the night Tova’s son disappeared. And now Marcellus must use every trick his old invertebrate body can muster to unearth the truth for her before it’s too late.
